Breath of Spring

Your donation to this year’s Breath of Spring campaign will help support the purchase of an Infant Radiant Warmer for the Maternity Ward at Kootenay Lake Hospital.  This piece of equipment uses gentle radiant heat to maintain the body temperature of newborns who require assistance after their birth.  It is equipped with an overhead lamp to prewarm the mattress and is especially helpful in providing soothing warmth for premature babies.  The Infant Radiant Warmer has integrated controls, such as oxygen and suction for clinicians to use when resuscitating babies.  It also comes with a scale for the baby’s first weigh in.  Thank you for keeping our littlest patients warm and safe.

Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be directed to the purchase of other priority medical equipment for Kootenay Lake Hospital.

Set Your Sight on Healthcare

Kootenay Lake Hospital is the only hospital in the Kootenay Boundary that offers Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT). The OCT Machine provides non-invasive imaging that aids in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and retinal diseases such as macular degeneration. Your donation to the Light Up the Hospital! campaign will help us purchase an OCT Machine for the Ophthalmology Clinic at Kootenay Lake Hospital.

Your support for this fundraiser will mean that every year 2,500 to 3,000 patients in our region will receive this test at no cost, and their eyes won’t have to look elsewhere for this valuable service.

Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be directed to the purchase of other priority medical equipment for Kootenay Lake Hospital.

Breath of Spring

YOU Are Vital…

If you have been in a hospital, you have had your vital signs checked.  This season, your donation to the Breath of Spring campaign will support the purchase of three state of the art Vital Signs Monitors for the Medical Ward at Kootenay Lake Hospital.

This essential equipment records a patient’s blood pressure, temperature, and oxygen saturation levels.  Every patient needs to have their vital signs taken frequently throughout their stay in the hospital.  The addition of multiple monitors will reduce the need to share equipment between patients, thus reducing the chance of infection.  These monitors will connect to the Central Monitoring System that was recently purchased thanks to your generous donations.

Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be directed to the purchase of other priority medical equipment for Kootenay Lake Hospital.

TB Vets Supports Maternity Ward

Once again, the TB Vets Charitable Foundation has made a generous donation to Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation.  This recent donation was used to purchase a TCM5 Flex Monitor for the Maternity Ward at Kootenay Lake Hospital.

This device provides non-invasive, continuous monitoring of oxygen and carbon dioxide levels in newborns. Through the use of a skin sensor, the monitor will provide information that would only have been available by drawing blood, thereby reducing the number of times blood needs to be drawn on these newborns.

As Clinical Operations Manager Trina Larson explains: “We are excited to use the best technology available to support safer and more comfortable care for our littlest patients. Every drop of their precious blood matters to their recovery and transition to breathing in the ‘outside’ world. TB Vets’ generous donation enables us to carefully monitor wee ones who are receiving respiratory support such as continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) or mechanical ventilation. The TCM-5 Flex’s real-time monitoring aids a faster response to changes in our patient’s condition and improves our workflow planning with our respiratory therapist and pediatricians, supporting the sustainability of their services in our community.”

TB Vets CEO, Kandys Merola says: “TB Vets is committed to honouring the deep rooted history of our Veterans by continuing to support Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation with much needed respiratory equipment.  The $20,000 donation for the purchase of a TCM5 Flex Monitor is the latest piece of equipment delivered to the hospital thanks to our generous donors, that will provide a meaningful solution for the community.”

Light Up the Hospital!

This season, help Kootenay Lake Hospital monitor our most vulnerable patients. Your donation to the Light Up the Hospital! campaign will support the purchase of a Central Monitoring System (CMS) for the Medical Ward.

The CMS will provide medical staff with instant access to the patient’s oxygen level, heart rate, and can be programmed to automatically take blood pressures at regular intervals. This timely communication about the patient’s condition, sudden changes and possible complications allows the medical team to provide the best level of care. For patients in isolation, the CMS will reduce the need for staff to constantly enter the room, while reducing the need to share equipment, thus lowering the risk of communicable illness exposure for staff and patient.

Any funds raised in excess of our goal will be directed to the purchase of other priority medical equipment for Kootenay Lake Hospital.

Breath of Spring

With rising cancer rates, the Oncology/IV Infusion Clinic at Kootenay Lake Hospital is more important than ever, and your donation will help purchase an Ultrasound System for the Oncology Clinic at our hospital.

Ultrasound technology is a crucial tool for the medical staff. It enhances the ability to insert specialized IV catheters, which are used to administer a variety of medications, including chemotherapy drugs.

Your donation to the Breath of Spring campaign will help our amazing team in the Oncology/IV Infusion Clinic perform chemotherapy and infusion procedures more efficiently, provide comfort for some of our most vulnerable patients, and ensure our hospital is equipped with state of the art equipment to support the care that we have come to expect from the dedicated staff at our hospital.

The medical staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital wishes to give a huge thank you to the TB Vets Charitable Foundation for their generous donation. Their support helped the Kootenay Lake Hospital Foundation purchase a T-1 Transport Ventilator for our Emergency Room.  This life saving equipment provides respiratory support for patients of all ages while in the hospital and during transportation between hospitals.

Your donation to this year’s Light Up the Hospital! campaign will support the replacement of a Centrifuge and a Coagulation Analyzer for the Lab at Kootenay Lake Hospital.

The Centrifuge works by rapidly spinning samples to separate solids from liquids.  This new equipment will ensure medical specimens are processed in the most efficient manner possible.  The centrifuge is used to analyze a large portion of blood samples that are processed in the lab.

The updated automated Coagulation Analyzer will help with diagnosing and managing patients with potential clots such as stroke, heart attack or disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC); a rare but serious condition that causes abnormal blood clotting throughout the body’s blood vessels. It will also allow continued efficient monitoring of anticoagulant medication such as warfarin/Coumadin, and heparin.

Your generous donations will ensure the most accurate and timely testing for our patients, ultimately leading to better outcomes. Thank you for your support!
